Destinácia bielych piesočnatých pláží, modro-zelených lagún, množstva nepreskúmaných ostrovov, veľrybích žralokov, morských korytnačiek a čerstvých kokosov. Filipíny, ktoré majú viac ako 7 000 ostrovov, rozhodne patria k exotickým krajinám, ktoré by sme aspoň raz v živote chceli navštíviť. Čo by ste mali vedieť pred tým ako vycestujete do krajiny, v ktorej na vás čakajú nové dobrodružstvá?

1. Kedy vycestovať na Filipíny?

Pred tým ako sa rozhodnete vycestovať, základom je vybrať si správnu sezónu. Vo všeobecnosti platí, že na Filipínach sa strieda obdobie sucha (december-máj) a obdobie dažďov (jún-november), kedy vás môže potrápiť nevyspytateľné počasie nielen v podobe dažďov, ale aj silných tajfúnov. Poveternostné podmienky sa samozrejme môžu prejavovať na každom ostrove inak. Ostrovy Palawan a Coron sú položené západne od ostatných ostrovov, kde sú vďaka svojej polohe viac chránené pred zlým počasím. My sme sa rozhodli vycestovať na prelome mesiacov január-február v hlavnej sezóne, počas ktorej nám pršalo len jeden deň v Oslob a posledný deň pred odletom v Cebu. Inak sme si užili tri týždne slnečného počasia na ostrovoch Cebu, Coron a Palawan.

2. Kde a kedy najlepšie kúpiť letenky?

Pred kúpou leteniek, buďte opatrný a radšej si overte dôveryhodnosť webstránky, cez ktorú ich chcete zakúpiť. Z osobných skúseností odporúčam kupovať letenky cez stránku www.skyscanner.com, kde sú ich najlepšie ceny a výber. Všeobecne platí, že čím skôr zakúpite letenky, tým bude aj cena lacnejšia (optimálne 3 mesiace dopredu). Rovnako záleží aj na sezóne, pre ktorú sa rozhodnete.

3. Potrebujete víza?

Slovensko má s Filipínami bezvízový styk, ktorý dovolí ostať v krajine 30 dní. Pri vstupe do krajiny je potrebné sa preukázať platným cestovným pasom a zakúpenou spiatočnou alebo jednosmernou letenkou z Filipín. Cestovný pas pri vstupe na Filipíny musí byť platný minimálne ešte 6 mesiacov po plánovanom ukončení pobytu v krajine.

4. Kde si rezervovať a zakúpiť ubytovanie?

Ubytovanie si môžete rezervovať cez www.agoda.com alebo www.booking.com, ktoré sú spoľahlivé a ponúkajú najlepšie ceny a výkon. Ďalšou možnosťou je rezervácia ubytovania cez stránku www.airbnb.com, ktorá ponúka byty a domy súkromných osôb. Dávajte si však pozor na prípadné zrušenia rezervácie ubytovania na poslednú chvíľu zo strany majiteľa. Nám sa to stalo napr. v Singapure či v Ubude na Bali, kde sme si potom museli zakúpiť oveľa drahšie a horšie ubytovanie. Na Filipínach nájdete ubytovanie vo všetkých kategóriách, od lacných hostelov až po luxusné rezorty.

5. SIM karty a aký je internet na Filipínach?

Na Filipínach sme si po prílete kúpili SIM karty od operátora Globe, ktorý je jeden z najznámejších aj spolu s operátorom Smart. Operátor Globe ponúkal rôzne balíky napr. 17G internetu s neobmedzeným volaním za 1000PHP (20€) alebo len 5G internetu bez volaní. Napriek tomu, na Filipínach neočakávajte silný a rýchly internet. Na Filipínach je internet katastrofálny a nechytíte ho všade, akurát v meste. Rovnako sa nespoliehajte na wifi v hoteloch, buď nejde vôbec alebo je veľmi pomalá.

6. Kde a v akej mene zameniť peniaze?

Vo všeobecnosti platí, že si nikdy nezamieňajte veľa hotovosti na letisku, kvôli horšiemu kurzu ako v meste. Či budete chcieť zamieňať vašu hotovosť v eurách alebo dolároch, je to na vás, pretože medzi tým nie je veľký rozdiel. Na Filipínach sa platí filipínskym pesom, ktoré sa označuje PHP a kurz za jedno euro sa pohybuje okolo 55PHP. Vždy majte so sebou dostatok hotovosti, pretože kartou sa dá platiť len obmedzene a bankomatov nájdete tiež len minimum. Ak sa už rozhodnete pre výber z bankomatu, vyberajte väčšiu hotovosť, ktorá vám vydrží dlhšie. Niektoré slovenské banky účtujú 5€ a viac za jeden výber z bankomatu a tiež počítajte s kartovým poplatkom aj pri platbe kartou.

7. Koľko stojí zapožičanie motorky/skútra?

Skúter môžete na Filipínach využiť na rôzne zážitkové road tripy, výlety ku krásnym vodopádom či k plážam. Tieto miesta sú zvyčajne dosť ďaleko a musíte k nim cestovať a preto jednou z možností je aj skúter. Skúter zoženiete všade v mestách u lokálnych predajcov, ktorí ich ponúkajú zvyčajne za 500PHP na 24h alebo na 1 deň (od rána do večera), ale viete ich zjednať aj za 400PHP.

8. Potrebujete očkovanie?

Na Filipíny v zásade žiadne špeciálne očkovanie nepotrebujete, ale všeobecne pri cestovaní odporúčam očkovanie proti hepatitíde (žltačke) typu A a B. Chráňte sa tiež kvalitným lokálnym repelentom, ktorý zoženiete na Filipínach. Rovnako odporúčam si pre istotu zbaliť čierne uhlie na prípadné žalúdočné problémy! Nezabúdajte si vždy umývať ruky a používať dezinfekčný prostriedok na ruky.

9. Aké je jedlo na Filipínach? 

Od jedla na Filipínach neočakávajte žiadnu slávu, skôr sklamanie. Problémom je hygiena prípravy jedla a jeho samotná kvalita, preto by som odporučila vyhýbať sa mäsu a nahradiť ho vegetariánskou variantou. Na druhej strane, na Filipínach som jedla najlepšie čerstvé ovocie v živote! Chuť čerstvého manga, ananásu, papáje alebo banánov rozhodne stáli za to. Ich chuť si budete chcieť užívať každý deň svojej dovolenky.

10. Akí sú ľudia na Filipínach?

Filipínčania sú veľmi priateľskí a zbožňujú cudzincov, ktorým radi pomôžu. V krajine môžeš vidieť veľa detí a študentov v rovnošatách, ktorí kráčajú práve zo školy. Väčšina domácich vie veľmi dobre po anglicky, učia sa ju už na školách, nakoľko je ich druhým národným jazykom. Veľmi radi spievajú a veľká väčšina krajiny je silno kresťansky veriaca.

Čo by ste mali ešte vedieť?

• Pred odletom nezabudnite na kvalitné cestovné a zdravotné poistenie v zahraničí.
• Pred  vašou cestou si pozrite lokálne mobilné aplikácie, ktoré by sa vám mohli zísť, napr. Grab (taxi služba na cestovanie), Lasquake (upozornenia na aktuálne zemetrasenia a tsunami)…
• Čo sa týka bezpečnosti na Filipínach, väčšina územia je bezpečná. No aj tu si vo väčších mestách ako Manila a Cebu City dávajte pozor na svoje cennosti a hotovosť si rozdeľte na viacero miest. Rovnako to platí aj pri cestovaní autobusom. Neodporúča sa cestovať do oblasti Mindanao a južnej časti ostrova Palawan.

Destination of white sandy beaches, blue-green lagoons, many unexplored islands, whale sharks, sea turtles and fresh coconuts. The Philippines, which has over than 7 000 islands, is definitely an exotic country that we would like to visit at least once in our lives. What should you know before you travel to a country, where new adventures await for you?

1. When to travel to Philippines?

Before you decide to travel, it is essential to choose the right season. In general, in the Philippines is changing dry season (December-May) and rainy season (June-November), when unpredictable weather can bother you in form of rains, but also powerful typhoons. Of course, the weather conditions could be different on each island. Palawan and Coron Islands are located west of the other islands, where they are more protected from bad weather due to their location. We decided to travel at the turn of January-February in high season, during which it rained only one day in Oslob and the last day before departure in Cebu. Otherwise, we enjoyed three weeks of sunny weather in Cebu, Coron and Palawan Islands.

2. Where and when is the best buy flight tickets?

Before buing flight tickets you should be careful and rather check the website’s credibility through which you want to buy them. From personal experience I recommend buying flight tickets through www.skyscanner.com, where are their the best prices and selection. In general, the sooner you buy tickets, the cheaper the price will be (optimally 3 months in advance). It also depends on the season you choose.

3. Do you need a visa?

Slovakia has visa-free travel with the Philippines, allowing to stay in the country for 30 days. When you arrive to the country is necessary to present a valid passport and a purchased return or one-way flight ticket from the Philippines. The passport on entry to the Philippines must be valid for at least 6 months after the planned end of the stay in the country.

4. Where to book and buy acommodation?

You can book acommodation through www.agoda.com or www.booking.com, that are reliable and worth for the price. Another option is to book acommodation at www.airbnb.com, which offers private apartments and houses. However, beware of any cancellation of the last minute reservation by the owner. It happened to us for example in Singapore or Ubud in Bali, where we had to buy much more expensive and worse acommodation. In the Philippines you can find acommodation in all categories, from cheap hostels to luxury resorts.

5. SIM cards and how is the internet in the Philippines?

In the Philippines, after the arrival we bought SIM cards from the operator Globe, which is one of the best known together with the operator Smart. Globe offered various packages, for example: 17G internet with unlimited calling for 1000PHP (20€) or only 5G internet without calling. However, don’t expect strong and fast internet in the Philippines. In the Philippines, internet is poor and you can’t connect it everywhere, except the city. Don’t even rely on the wifi in the hotels, either it doesn’t work at all or is very slow.

6. Where and in which currency to exchange money?

In general it applies that you should never change a lot of money at the airport, because there is worse exchange rates than in the city. If you would like to change your cash in Euros or Dollars currency, it’s up to you, because there’s no big difference. In the Philippines, they pay in the currency of Philippine Peso, with a shortcut PHP, and the exchange rate for one euro is around 55PHP. Always have enough cash with you, because you can not pay by credit card everywhere and there is just a few ATMs around. If you decide to withdraw money from ATM withdraw more cash for longer time. Some Slovak banks charge 5€ or more for one withdrawal from the ATM and you can also expect card fee even when paying by credit card abroad.

7. How much cost to rent a motorbike/scooter?

In the Philippines you can use a motorbike for various adventurous road trips, trips to beautiful waterfalls or beaches. These places are usually far away and you have to travel to them, so one of the cool option is rent a motorbike. You can get a motorbike everywhere in towns at local sellers, who usually offer motorbikes for 500PHP for 24h or for 1 day (from the morning to the evening), but you know to bargain it also for 400PHP.

8. Do you need vaccinations?

In principle, you don’t need any special vaccination for the Philippines, but I generally recommend vaccination against hepatitis of types A and B when you traveling. Protect your skin also with good local mosquito repellent that you can get in the Philippines. I also recommend to pack activated carbon for possible stomach problems! Remember to always wash your hands and use hand sanitizer.

9. How is the food in the Philippines?

Don’t expect good food in the Philippines, rather disappointment. The problem is their hygiene of preparing food and its quality itself. I would recommend to avoid meat and replace it with vegetarian options. On the other hand, in the Philippines I ate the best fresh fruits in my life! The taste of fresh mango, pineapple, papaya or banana was definitely worth it. You will want to enjoy their taste every day of your vacation.

10. What kind of people are in the Philippines?

Filippinos are very friendly and adore foreigners, whom they like to help. In the country you can see many children and students in uniforms walking from school. Most of locals speak english very good, they already study it in schools, because it’s their the second national language. They love to sing and the vast majority of the country is Christian believer.

What else should you know?

• Before traveling, don’t forget about quality travel and health insurance abroad.
• Before your travel, check some local mobile apps that could be helpful for you, for example: Grab (taxi service for travel), Lasquake (current earthquake and tsunami alerts)…
• What about security in the Philippines, most of the territory is safe. But in larger cities like Manila and Cebu City pay attention to your valuables and put your cash to more places. The same is when you travel by bus. It’s not recommended to travel to the area of Mindanao and the southern part of Palawan Island.
